Resort Profile- Kirkwood
Kirkwood is known as a resort for those who are serious about their skiing and snowboarding. It is not the polished, glitzy resort you might expect, but it offers the finest slopes and most options of any resort in California’s Sierras. With 500” of annual snowfall, you are guaranteed to find near perfect conditions for a majority of the season.
Kirkwood boasts several terrain parks, each one set up for a different skill level. Whether you are an expert rider or spending your first winter on the board, there are rails and jumps suited to your skills. Also, with more than 65 trails and 2,300 total acres of terrain, those who choose the slopes over the half-pipe and rails will find a section of the mountain to their liking. The runs are divided evenly between novice, intermediate and expert.
If you truly want to be close to the action, there are privately owned condos for rent slope-side. You can actually put your skis on before exiting your room and go straight to the chair lifts without having to march through the chalet. There are also a host of lodges and condos for rent throughout the area. In addition, there are after-ski and nighttime spots hot enough to melt the snow.
